accessing medicinal cannabis as a patient in Australia

Medicinal cannabis is legal in Australia with a valid prescription.

This means that to access medicinal cannabis, you’ll first need to talk to a doctor so they can determine your eligibility and apply for you to access these treatments via the Therapeutic Goods Administration’s Special Access Scheme B or Authorised Prescriber Scheme.

To be eligible for a medicinal cannabis prescription in Australia, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) states that a patient must:

Have a chronic medical condition (with symptoms lasting three months or more) that has been diagnosed by a medical professional
and/or have sought out other forms of treatment that either failed to provide relief in treating the condition or resulted in adverse side effects.
There may be other factors that your doctor will consider when assessing whether medicinal cannabis is a good treatment for you, based on your condition/s and individual circumstances.
